Man sentenced to life for 1975 murder of Aquash

A federal judge sentenced a South Dakota man to life in prison for the 1975 murder of American Indian Movement activist Anna Mae Pictou Aquash.

Arlo Looking Cloud has 10 days to appeal. His new lawyer contends there is doubt over his participation in the murder. The judge rejected a request for a mental evaluation of Looking Cloud.

A second man, John Graham, has been indicted for killing Aquash on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Graham is fighting extradition from Canada.

A third woman, Theda Clarke, alleged to have been involved has not been charged.
