Hearings held on federal land swap with Crow Tribe

The National Park Service held public hearings on a proposed land swap with the Crow Tribe of Montana.

The tribe will receive 340 acres of the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area to correct for an error the NPS made in 1968 by building a marina and access road on tribal land.

In exchange, the tribe will guarantee access to a popular fishing site and grant an easement on tribal trust land.

According to Bob Krumm of Wyoming Outdoors, people who attended the public meetings were concerned about access fees to the fishing site. The tribe and the NPS say they will only charge one fee.
