Obituary: Rex Redhouse, patriarch of musical family


Rex P. Redhouse, a Navajo Nation man who formed dance, drum and musical groups with his family, died on Friday after a recent illness. He was 84.

Rehouse was born on the Navajo Reservation and lived in Arizona and California. He founded the Redhouse Dancers and the Dineh Singers, a drum group, to promote tribal culture at schools, powwows and other events.

Rex Redhouse also created a jazz ensemble with his six children. The Redhouse Family drew praise for their Canyon Records release "Urban Indian."
