Pueblo leader goes from business to breakdance


It's not often you see a tribal leader do the moonwalk minutes after promoting economic opportunities in Indian Country.

But that's all in a day's work for Tom Talache, governor of Namb� Pueblo in northern New Mexico. The 35-year-old spoke to students at Santa Fe Indian School and told them to "dress for success." He was wearing a business suit then changed into a sweat suit to performed with the Rez Crew, a group of Indian kids who break dance.

Talache said he was 19 an in a dead-end job in a fast food restaurant when he decided to something better with his life. He joined the U.S. Navy, traveled around the world and served in Desert Storm before returning to pursue educational opportunities. He ended up working for his tribe in 1999 and has been elected twice as governor since 2002.
