Natives feel threatened at Alaska high school

Native students at Juneau-Douglas High School in Alaska say they feel threatened by other students.

A student was recently suspended, for 10 days, after displaying a derogatory sign about Natives from a school bus. Native students report being harassed and some say they are afraid to walk the halls alone. Teachers say they have seen the initials, KAN, or Kids Against Natives, written on students' desks.

A teacher said a survey conducted at the school two years ago showed that students perceived Alaska Natives to be at the bottom of the social ladder.
