N.M. considering plan to keep Indian artists warm

Native artists have been selling their wares in front of the Palace of the Governors in Santa Fe, New Mexico, for generations. The state is now considering a plan to keep them warm during the winter months.

Design plans for the new state history museum call for the bricks where the artists sit and show their works to be heated. Museum officials say there are health and comfort benefits.

Several Indian artists who spoke to The Santa Fe New Mexican said they support the plan. The state's engineering contractor said care would be taken to make sure the heating won't affect the artwork.
