Mary C. Demientieff, an Athabascan woman who spent 30 years providing health care to the village of Nenana, died at her home on Sunday evening. She was 97.
Demientieff didn't receive formal nursing training until late in life but she had already been serving the community for many years. She was on call 24 hours a day.
A traditional funeral and potlatch will be held for Demientieff tomorrow.
