The Navajo Nation Council approved a measure to build a fire station at its flagship casino in Arizona.

The Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise is seeking $4.5 million for the project at the Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort in Flagstaff, The Farmington Daily-Times reported.

"We do not have an option of having a fire response coming in from Leupp or Dilkon. We must fire response on site,” Michelle Dotson, the executive director of compliance at the enterprise, told the council, the paper reported.

Legislative action is needed because the money is coming from the Síhasin Fund that was established by a trust settlement with the federal government. Council delegates voted 19 to 3 to approve the measure.
