Eastern Shawnee Tribe to welcome visitors to reopened casino

It's almost here -- the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma is reopening its casino near the Missouri border on Thursday.

Chief Glenda Wallace said the doors to the Bordertown Casino and Arena will open at 11am. The facility, which originally opened 31 years ago, underwent a makeover and now features a western and rodeo theme.

“Bordertown was a originally a name that we assigned to our bingo hall,” Wallace told The Neosho Daily News.. “We started bingo in 1984. And it was called ‘Eastern Shawnee Bingo.’

The casino will feature 537 gaming machines, a restaurant called CoCo's Chuckwagon and a dance floor/event space called the Lost Creek Saloon There will also be an outdoor arena for bull riding events.

“The arena part will not be open all of the time, the events are primarily for weekend events," Wallace told the paper. The first event will take place May 23.
