The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community in Michigan approved a study of the tribe's existing casino and the potential for new developments.

The tribe will study the casino market in the Baraga and Marquette areas, The Marquette Daily Mining Gazette reported. The results will help determine whether to pursue new gaming opportunities but it won't look at specific sites, the paper said.

The tribe pursued an off-reservation casino in Marquette but the plan was rejected by the governor in 2013. Another plan to convert an existing hotel on the reservation into a casino was voted down by tribal members last month.
