Writer questions decision by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) to reject an off-reservation casino proposed by the Menominee Nation:
The Menominee had been one of the most prosperous tribes in the United States until their legal status was terminated in 1954 by the federal government. The immediate effects were disastrous, and the federal government reversed course in 1973.

The Menominee Nation is now among the poorest. Allowing the tribe to proceed with the convention center and casino would help compensate for this mistake.

Walker seems to have caved to pressure from evangelicals in Iowa. One would have expected support from these Christians and from conservatives for the efforts of the Menominee to create jobs for themselves and the people of Kenosha.
