Authorities in Idaho are investigating the legality of historical horse racing machines that have been installed at non-Indian facilities.

The Post Falls Police Department is looking into the machines at the Greyhound Park and Event Center. But the probe could affect other non-Indian facilities that have installed similar devices.

“We’ll take a look at how the machines work, and a careful look at what the law says,” police chief Scot Haug told The Spokesman Review. “We’ll talk to experts who deal with these machines.”

State lawmakers approved betting on historical horse races in 2013. Tribal leaders say the machines that have been installed closely resemble Class III slot machines.
