The Morongo Band of Mission Indians in California opened its $250 million gaming facility 10 years ago today.

The Morongo Casino Resort & Spa, located off a major highway, stands 27 stories. It is still the tallest building in Riverside County.

ā€œIā€™m still struck by the sight of the tower rising against the backdrop of mountains in the morning,ā€ Chairman Robert Martin told The Riverside Press-Enterprise.

The tribe employs about 3,000 people at the facility, the paper said. The annual payroll is $60 million.
