The state of California and the federal government took action last week after a leadership dispute within Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians spilled over into the tribe's casino.

An armed confrontation between rival factions on Thursday night prompted the closure of the Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino. The state then went to court to seek an official closure, a request that was granted by a federal judge on Friday afternoon.

Separately, the National Indian Gaming Commission issued a notice of violation and a temporary closure order to the tribe. It was the fourth action taken against the tribe, whose leaders have been unable to resolve their dispute for nearly three years.

The tribe is losing $1 million a day due to the closure, KFSN reported.
