The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut is losing its top gaming executive.

Scott Butera will step down as CEO of the Foxwoods Resort Casino on October 31. He held the post for nearly four years and will continue to advise the tribe on financial matters while he pursues a new opportunity outside the gaming sector.

"He stabilized our financial footing through successful restructuring of debt, rebuilt our core management team and executed a deal with Tanger outlets that is expected to draw three million visitors annually to the property," Chairman Rodney Butler said in a statement, according to news reports. "Scott's efforts have repositioned Foxwoods as one of the Northeast's most dynamic Gaming Resorts."

The tribe has taken a hit in revenues since the national economic recession of 2008.
