Vegas executive criticizes Internet gaming ban

The chief executive of MGM Mirage called a new law that bans Internet gaming "ridiculous" and hopes Democrats will reverse it now that they are in control of Congress.

Terry Lanni spoke at the Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas on Wednesday. He "It makes no sense whatsoever," he was quoted as saying. "Prohibition didn't work, this isn't going to work."

Lanni said gaming companies will try to get Congress to approve a study of online gaming. A new group called Poker Players Alliance also hopes to reverse the bill.

The prohibition was included in a port security bill that Republicans pushed through Congress before the election. It exempts Internet gaming that takes places solely on reservations or between tribes.
