First slot machine facility opens in Florida

More than 400 people filled the first slot machine facility in south Florida on Thursday.

The Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino has 516 slot machines. Three other slot facilities are on the way.

Voters in Broward County legalized slot machines back in November 2004. The move ensured that tribes in the state could offer the same type of gaming.

The Seminole Tribe and the Miccosukee Tribe began negotiations for a Class III compact with outgoing Gov. Jeb Bush (R) but talks failed. The Bureau of Indian Affairs is now prepared to issue procedures to allow the Seminoles to offer slot machines.
