A spokesperson for Rep. Richard Pombo (R-California), the chairman of the House Resources Committee, said a bill to amend the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act is up for consideration this month.

H.R.4893 would limit the ability of tribes to use land for gaming. It blocks out-of-state casinos, off-reservation casinos for tribes with existing land bases and casinos linked to land claims.

The bill passed the committee in July. Spokesperson Brian Kennedy said it hasn't been scheduled for a vote on the floor yet.

Tribes nationwide are opposing the measure and another one that would overhaul IGRA.
