Agua Caliente Band to announce new compact

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) are announcing a new gaming compact today.

According to news reports, the deal authorizes a third casino for the Palm Springs-area tribe. It will allow the tribe to operate up to 5,000 slot machines, more than twice the 2,000 currently in play.

In exchange for expanded gaming, the tribe will pay an estimated $81.9 million a year to the state. Part of the money will come from a fixed share of the tribe's existing slot machines and the rest from a percentage or profits on the additional slot machines.
