Markup scheduled for off-reservation gaming bill

The House Resources Committee is holding a markup this Wednesday on H.R. 4893, a bill that would restrict off-reservation gaming.
Rep. Richard Pombo (R-California), the chairman of the committee, is the sponsor of H.R.4893. The bill would make it harder for tribes to take land into trust for gaming purposes.
The bill amends Section 20 of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. It eliminates the two-part determination process and the land claim exception, and it bars tribes from crossing state lines to open casinos.
The markup takes place at 9:30am in Room 1324 of the Longworth House Office Building. The session should be available online at http://resourcescommittee.house.gov.
