Gaming mogul Donald Trump engaged in a last-minute lobbying war with the Narragansett Tribe over a casino bill going before the Rhode Island House today.
The bill asks voters to amend the state constitution to allow the tribe to open a casino. The tribe's partner on the deal is Harrah's Entertainment.
Trump wants a piece of the action and is proposing to open up the approval process to other bids. His organization and Harrah's traded shots in hopes of convincing lawmakers that their ideas are the best ones.
A House committee voted this week to advance the Narragansett-only bill. Some Republicans are said to be drafting legislation to allow competitive bidding.
