A handful of California tribes are expanding their casinos under new compacts they signed with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R).
Schwarzenegger pressured tribes to sign new revenue-sharing deals but only a few did so. Those tribes quickly added more slot machines to their facilities and are moving forward with plans to expand their casinos.
The majority of tribes refused to negotiate new compacts. They said Schwarzenegger was demanding too much control over the activities that occur on the reservation and requiring tribes to address off-reservation impacts.
