Legislation
Minnesota casino bill sent to unfriendly committee

Legislation to allow up to two casinos at a racetrack in the Twin Cities has been sent to a committee seen as unfavorable to any expansion of gaming.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) is backing one casino in partnership with tribes and another in partnership with a non-Indian racetrack. Two tribes have since dropped out of the deal after it was merged with the Canterbury Park track.

The House Taxes Committee will take up the bill but observers say the outlook is not positive.
