The Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin is opposing another Wisconsin tribe's bid for an off-reservation casino.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs is in the process of finalizing an environmental impact statement for the proposed casino in Beloit. The Bad River and St. Croix bands of the Lake Superior Chippewa want 26 acres placed in trust.
But the Ho-Chunk Nation filed a letter in opposition, claiming that Beloit is within Ho-Chunk territory.
The tribe operates four gaming establishments on trust land but does not have an established reservation.
