"Wichita needs to decide, sooner rather than later, whether it wants a stake in casino gambling. If the city delays, the decision will be made for it when the market becomes saturated with competing venues.
That would create the worst of all possible worlds in terms of economic development: a Wichita that is surrounded in every direction by gambling operations but receives none of the revenue from them.
That's why the Iowa tribe's proposal for a major destination casino near Park City deserves serious and prompt consideration by local leaders and the state Legislature.
Supporters say the $200 million resort casino, situated near I-35, would eventually create 2,500 good-paying jobs, as well as an annual economic windfall for the state of $50 million or more."
