UPDATE: The SCIA site has gone missing! In The Hoop forced it offline! Most other Senate committee sites, however, are still in operation.
As the whole world and all the terrorists know by now, Democrats took control of Congress on Thursday. Prepare for at least two more years of higher taxes, French films on the National Mall and airplanes flying into the White House.
But not in Indian Country! Oh no, we aren't having any of that. Because, in our tiny little corner world, Republicans are still in charge of the
Senate Indian Affairs Committee.
If you want proof, just surf the Interweb over to the
Committee Members page. It lists none other than
Sen. Craig Thomas (R-Wyoming) as chairman! Poor
Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota) has been relegated to vice chairman yet again. It's like November 7 never happened and that's the way Jesus wants it.
OK, so maybe we're being too hard on the poor
bloggers? staffers who run the SCIA site. After all, a peek at the
members page of the Senate Energy Committee still names
Sen. Pete Domenici (R-New Mexico) as chairman but we all know it's the
other white guy from New Mexico.
At least the web workers had the decency to keep the honorable
Sen. Tim Johnson (D-South Dakota), who recently underwent surgery and remains hospitalized, on the list. We wish him a speedy recovery and await the day he returns to work under a Democratic-controlled SCIA.
Until that day arrives, you can print out this
momento and circulate it around the office. Scare your chairman! Confuse your co-workers! Hire a lobbyist who knows Sen. Thomas!
