Famous Dave's expands to Canada with First Nations backing

Famous Dave’s is expanding to Canada with the backing of the Tribal Councils Investment Group, a for-profit corporation that represents 55 First Nations in Manitoba.

"Famous" Dave Anderson, a member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Lake Superior Band of Ojibwe Indians, started the popular BBQ chain in Wisconsin in 1994. He has outposts in 184 restaurants in 37 states but the one in The Winnipeg, Manitoba, will be his first venture in Canada.

Anderson ran the Bureau of Indian Affairs for about a year during the Bush administration.
